Our facial skins natural ph is about 5.5 this level is where the skin functions at its best. If it drops any lower than 5.5 ph, then it becomes more acidic or if it increases higher than 5.5 ph, then it becomes more alkaline. Either way the effects are drying out of the skin, redness and tightness.
TIP ONE – Bars of soap tend to sit at ph 9 which is alkaline so if you are using a bar of soap and your feeling the effects of dry, red, tight and irritated skin on your face then it’s time to change your cleansing habits. When you think about the price of a bar of soap costing less than fifty pence, it makes sense why you should never use them on your face.
TIP TWO – Cleansers purchased from any high street shop or any super market are a cosmetic level product and again tend to sit at a higher ph level because they contain soap, which is more alkaline based so these types of cleansers can also cause dry, red, tight and irritated skin. The ingredients will always be reflected in the price.
TIP THREE – Water also known as H2O. We use it every day to wash our faces yet our facial skin does not like water directly touching it on its own, it is a chemical substance and it can be too harsh on the delicate skin causing it to become dry, red, tight and irritated.
Medik8 a cosmeceutical brand which is only sold to professionals in the skincare world, have cleansers that mimic the skins natural ph levels so there is no irritation because they do not contain soap. Medik8 are able to produce this perfect ph level because of the quality ingredients they choose and the small, fresh batches they produce.
